Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. Deliberative Democracy and Political Decision Making

Deliberative Democracy and Political Decision Making

Authors: Jon Green, Jonathon Kingzette, Michael Neblo

Project Description: Political deliberation takes place across many settings and actors, including informal citizen discussions, organized small-group forums, and elite decision-making. While citizen deliberation can promote democratic benefits like participation and knowledge, debates persist over its feasibility and impact. Elite deliberation—despite its massive policy influence—remains understudied. This entry categorizes these different deliberative sites and suggests a path forward for systematic analysis.
