Two retired members of the United States Congress, Jason Altmire (D-PA, 2007-2013) and Barry Goldwater, Jr. (R-CA, 1969-1983), will be visiting the Ohio State University for two days through the Congress to Campus program, facilitated by the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress. During the two day visit, our guests will interact with students through classes, community forums, and other informal events. During these events, they will share their distinct perspectives about the public and political spheres they inhabit.
A public forum on the theme of Overcoming Polarization will take place on Tuesday, March 20 from 2:15 to 3:30 pm in the Multipurpose Room (165) at Thompson Library. Kevin Stankiewicz and Summer Cartwright, of The Lantern, will moderate the forum.
Barry M. Goldwater Jr. represented California from 1969-1984 as a member of the Republican Party, and served on the Committee on Public Works, the Committee on Science and Technology, and the Joint Committee on Energy.
Jason Altmire represented Pennsylvania from 2007-2013 as a member of the Democratic party. His time in Congress was characterized by a focus on meeting the interests of both parties, with which he saw a great deal of success.
