IDEA's on-campus programs are designed to teach students the skills needed for a healthy democracy and to promote civic engagement. Our initiatives help students engage in productive discussions and solve complex problems in a respectful and constructive way.
The Shop Class for Democracy program builds students' skills in critical thinking and deliberative decision-making. Through deliberative forums, the program encourages students to dialogue across differences and strengthens their commitment to democratic values.
IDEA also offers the Education for Citizenship course, taught by Director Michael Neblo. The course confronts complex philosophical and policy issues head-on, redefining what citizenship means in an era shaped by technology and polarization.
